M/T 'Argeus I' a 155,000 dwt eco-type Ice-Class dual fuel LNG crude oil tanker, built in 2025 by New Times Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. was awarded by Lloyd's Register its highest classification with the 100A1 notation, confirming adherence to stringent construction and maintenance standards for enhanced safety and operational reliability.
The 'Argeus I' is the result of a groundbreaking partnership between Capital and Lloyd's Register to complete the world's first tanker OPS Compatibility Assessment—the first such evaluation conducted since the official publication of the IEC 80005-1 standard in 2012. This certification ensures that all six vessels in the series—'Argeus I', 'Aristoklis', 'Archelaos', 'Aristodimos', 'Ayrton', and 'Amor'—will be fully compatible with on-shore power infrastructure at the Port of Long Beach, California, enabling seamless connection to shore power at berth for emissions-free operations. 'Argeus I' is the first of six LNG dual-fuel sister vessels scheduled for delivery to Capital between 2025 and 2027.
The vessel features a MAN B&W ME-GI engine with exceptionally low methane slip when operating on methane fuel, significantly minimizing greenhouse gas emissions. Additional environmental and efficiency features include:
Compared to a 2015 ECO vessel of similar capacity, the dual-fuel LNG vessel M/T 'Argeus I' achieves fuel consumption savings of up to 48% and reduces its environmental footprint by up to 54%, resulting in a significantly lower environmental footprint and unit freight costs. Additional environmental and economic benefits are realized through AMP (shore power connection), which reduces emissions to zero while at berth, with total voyage emissions reduction exceeding the 60%, representing Capital's commitment to sustainable shipping and positioning the company at the forefront of maritime environmental innovation.
