ENVIRONMENT

In an effort to preserve and safeguard the environment and to encourage public awareness regarding the great environmental challenges of our day, Capital Ship Management has been sponsoring various reforestation and recycling initiatives as well as environmental education projects since 2009. In order to materialize its environmentally sensitive activities, Capital has teamed up with Skai Group, a Greek Media Group, consisting of a national Television Station, a Publishing House and the leading Radio Station in the country.

For over 20 years, SKAI has been a leader in tackling major environmental issues facing Greece, as well as educating and motivating the general public to participate in its environmental activities, including reforestation, water preservation, recycling and beach restoration. SKAI Television has co-produced with BBC and The Discovery Channel distinguished documentaries, such as the blockbuster wildlife series “Life” and “Frozen Planet”.

Capital is sponsoring recycling initiatives throughout Greece and major reforestation projects organized by SKAI Group, in the areas surrounding Athens, where forests have been severely depleted by fires over the past decades. As a result, 225,000 trees were planted in 2009 in the mountains of Attica, including Penteli, Ymitos, Panion Oros and Parnitha. 200,000 more saplings are scheduled to be planted in the year 2010.

Capital is also aiming to increase awareness and educate the public about the environment. Capital staff have volunteered in organizing a SKAI Books initiative of distributing plant seeds and books in Athens primary schools and teaching children about the benefits of growing and taking care of plants.

Capital is also co-sponsoring some of SKAI Television’s programs dealing with nature such as "HOME" a world acclaimed environmental film and "Eco News" - a daily news segment broadcasting the latest in local and worldwide environmental issues, whose presence is unique to Greek television.

We hope that Capital’s efforts will bring greater environmental awareness and motivation to the public thus contributing to a better tomorrow.
